Ibarapa-born Methodist Archbishop Ogunlere Laid to Rest Amid Tributes

The Methodist Church Nigeria on Friday held a solemn funeral service for its late Ibarapa-born Archbishop, Most Reverend Dr. Sunday Oluyemisi Ogunlere, at Methodist Church Oke Agogo Igboora, where family members, clergy, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate a life of service, humility, and enduring spiritual impact.

The service was officiated by Oliver Ali Aba, Prelate of the Church, alongside Babatunde Taiwo and Effiong Okon Inyang, in the presence of archbishops, bishops, presbyters, priests, deacons, and deaconesses.

Archbishop Ogunlere, who lived from 1961 to 2025, was remembered as a devoted servant of God and a distinguished leader who served as Archbishop of Ifaki and Bishop of the Diocese of Ifaki. Tributes described him as a mentor, mediator, spiritual guide, and a strong advocate for youth development, whose life reflected excellence and deep commitment to humanity.

In his sermon, the Prelate urged attendees to make meaningful use of their time, gifts, and opportunities, emphasizing that life is a sacred trust that must be lived with purpose and faith. He noted that the true measure of life lies not in its length but in the quality of service rendered to God and mankind.

The service concluded with reflections on Ogunlere’s enduring legacy, as speakers noted that though he has passed on, his impact remains evident in the lives he touched. He was remembered as one who lived faithfully, led with humility, and left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
