Experience , Exposure and a Renewed Commitment to Constituency Representation
Hon. Afolabi Abiodun, the Accord Party flag bearer for Ibarapa Central and North Federal Constituency, has presented his aspiration to serve in the Nigerian House of Representatives as an opportunity to introduce a new approach to constituency representation, one anchored on accessibility, inclusive engagement, responsive leadership and development-oriented legislation.
A native of Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Abiodun is a young and widely exposed professional whose experience cuts across public service and international development programmes. His professional and developmental engagements have taken him to countries including China, Japan, Thailand, India, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. According to his campaign, these experiences have broadened his understanding of contemporary approaches to governance, community development, public administration and institutional engagement.
A Representation Built Around Accessibility
At the heart of Hon. Abiodun’s proposed representation is accessibility. He has expressed his intention to maintain an open channel of communication with constituents, listen to communities and stakeholders and ensure that constituency concerns receive appropriate attention through consultation and constructive engagement.
His proposed approach places particular emphasis on working with traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, students, professionals, farmers, women and other relevant stakeholders to identify pressing challenges and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Addressing the Electricity Challenge
The persistent challenge of inadequate and unstable electricity supply remains one of the issues Hon. Abiodun has identified as requiring urgent and coordinated attention across Ibarapa Central and North.
He has proposed convening a stakeholders’ meeting within the first quarter of assuming office, bringing together technocrats, relevant energy companies, youth representatives, community leaders and traditional rulers.
The proposed engagement would seek to establish the underlying causes of the electricity challenges, document the concerns of affected communities and develop a communiqué for submission to the relevant authorities. This would be followed by sustained advocacy, engagement and monitoring.
For Hon. Abiodun, the objective is not simply to complain about inadequate electricity supply, but to understand the history and circumstances surrounding the challenge and pursue every realistic avenue for improvement.
His approach draws on the often-cited observation associated with philosopher George Santayana that those who fail to learn from history risk repeating it. His position is that a proper understanding of the past can help stakeholders develop more effective and sustainable strategies for addressing present challenges.
Agriculture and Rural Development
Given the predominantly agrarian character of Ibarapa Central and North, Hon. Abiodun considers agriculture a major opportunity for economic growth, employment and community development.
His proposed agenda includes continuous training and support for farmers, improved access to agricultural opportunities and greater attention to rural infrastructure.
He has also highlighted the importance of improving and maintaining rural roads, especially those linking farming communities to markets, while supporting the infrastructure, equipment and systems required to strengthen agricultural production and value chains.
Youth and Student Empowerment
Youth development also features prominently in Hon. Abiodun’s proposed agenda.
He has expressed his intention to work closely with young people, student organisations and other relevant stakeholders in developing empowerment initiatives that respond to the realities and opportunities of the 21st-century economy.
The proposed focus includes skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, capacity building and access to opportunities that can better position young people to participate in emerging economic and technological sectors.
Security and Community Partnership
Security is another area identified by Hon. Abiodun as requiring sustained attention and stronger community participation.
His proposed approach would support existing security structures while encouraging greater cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youth groups and residents. The objective is to promote stronger information-sharing, community awareness and collective responsibility in addressing security concerns across the constituency.
Infrastructure and Sustainable Development
Hon. Abiodun is also advocating for a comprehensive review of existing infrastructure across Ibarapa Central and North, with particular attention to facilities that require rehabilitation, maintenance or upgrading.
His position is that infrastructure should not only be provided but properly maintained to ensure that it continues to serve the people and contribute to sustainable development, productivity and improved quality of life.
From roads and electricity to community facilities and other essential infrastructure, his proposed approach is to promote interventions based on identified needs, stakeholder input and measurable development priorities.
A Call fore a New Approach to Representation
For Hon. Afolabi Abiodun, the 2027 election presents an opportunity for the people of Ibarapa Central and North to engage with a vision of representation built around accessibility, consultation, accountability and purposeful advocacy.
His aspiration is anchored on the belief that effective representation should go beyond legislative attendance to include listening to constituents, understanding their challenges, attracting relevant opportunities and consistently advocating for the interests of the constituency.
With his combination of professional exposure, international experience and stated commitment to grassroots engagement, Hon. Abiodun is presenting himself to the people of Ibarapa Central and North as a candidate seeking to bring a new perspective to constituency representation.
