Nigerian Afrobeats Star Destiny Boy Dies at 22

The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following the reported death of fast-rising Afrobeats star Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, who passed away at the age of 22.

Destiny Boy rose to national prominence in 2019 after his street-pop cover of Davido’s hit song “If”, which he rebranded as “One Ticket,” went viral across social media platforms. The song showcased his raw talent, unique street-pop sound, and energetic delivery, quickly earning him recognition among music lovers and industry stakeholders.

At just 19 years old, Destiny Boy made headlines after purchasing a Mercedes-Benz, a move that symbolized his rapid rise from the streets to stardom and inspired many young Nigerians chasing similar dreams.

In his personal life, the singer proposed to his partner in 2024 and welcomed a baby boy in November 2024, marking a new chapter in his young family life.

Reports of his death began circulating online in the early hours of Sunday, triggering an outpouring of shock and grief from fans and colleagues. Close associate Phayte shared an emotional video reacting to the loss, saying, “Chai left the world so quick.”

Another associate, Bolisco, claimed that Destiny Boy had vomited blood before his death, a statement that has fueled widespread speculation on social media. However, no official cause of death has been confirmed, and no formal statement has been released by his family as of the time of filing this report. Unverified videos and claims have continued to circulate online, prompting calls for restraint and respect for the family’s privacy.

Fans and fellow artistes have since taken to social media to pay tribute to the late singer, remembering him as a talented young artist whose journey from a street kid to a celebrated Afrobeats act was cut tragically short.

Destiny Boy’s death marks another painful loss for Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with many describing him as a bright talent gone too soon.
