Popular Oyo State broadcaster and media personality, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Hamzat, who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM, Ibadan, made the declaration on Saturday, 17th January, 2026 at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, before a large gathering of supporters, party leaders and sympathisers drawn from within and outside the state.
In his address, the media entrepreneur announced his decision to join the Accord Party and seek its gubernatorial ticket, describing the move as a continuation of his lifelong commitment to speaking for the people.
“Today, 17th January, 2026, I am declaring my intention to join Accord as a political platform to be on the ballot paper as the Oyo State gubernatorial candidate towards the 2027 election,” Hamzat said.
He emphasised that his ambition was not driven by wealth or political godfatherism, noting that he is relying on faith and the support of the people.
“I don’t have money or any political connection, neither do I have any government of today backing me,” he stated. “I am coming with God and that is all I need.” Hazmat said.
Hamzat said his decision to run was motivated by a desire to serve the common people, particularly the voiceless and the oppressed, whom he said have been at the centre of his advocacy over the years.
According to him, his years in broadcasting have been dedicated to speaking truth to power and amplifying the concerns of ordinary citizens, adding that his foray into politics was a step towards translating words into concrete action.
“I have used my platform to speak the truth and to give voice to the people,” he said. “Now, I am taking a further step by joining the Accord Party to serve, to fight for the people, and to bring meaningful development to Oyo State.”
The event was attended by leaders of the Accord Party and a visibly enthusiastic crowd of supporters, many of whom described Hamzat’s declaration as a bold move that could reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
With the declaration, Hamzat becomes one of the early aspirants to formally signal interest in the Oyo governorship race, setting the tone for what is expected to be a keenly contested election.
