A fresh crisis is brewing within the Federation of Ibarapa Students Association (FIBSA) following the emergence of two factional presidents after parallel elections conducted by rival electoral committees.
Peoples Conscience reliably gathered that two separate elections were held between Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, resulting in the emergence of different executive leaderships for the apex students’ body in Ibarapa land.
Findings revealed that an election conducted in Eruwa on Saturday by an electoral committee led by Comrade Salau Faruq produced Comrade Oyalowo Sulaimon as president. Meanwhile, another election held in Ayete on Sunday by a committee led by Comrade Sangotunde Taiwo produced Comrade Olaniyan Abass as president of the association.
Further investigation showed that leadership crises are not new to the association, as FIBSA has a history of internal disputes and factional disagreements.
The latest development has, however, raised fresh concerns among stakeholders, particularly as it was widely expected that Ayete would produce the next president of the association in line with the internal zoning arrangement. Ironically, the emergence of two presidents from the same town has further deepened the crisis rather than resolving it.
Peoples Conscience also gathered that Comrade Olaniyan Abass is reportedly enjoying the backing of the immediate past president of the association, Comrade Adeegbe Rokeeb, while Comrade Oyalowo Sulaimon is said to be supported by some other key stakeholders within the association.
This news agency further learned that Comrade Olaniyan Abass has already been sworn in, with properties belonging to the association, including the official bus, reportedly handed over to him.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official clarification from the association’s leadership proved abortive as the crisis continues to unsettle the students’ community across Ibarapa land.
