The development follows their unsuccessful bids to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets for Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency and Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North State Constituency, respectively.
Hon. Muraina defected to the APC in 2022 after leaving the PDP. Barely 20 days after joining the ruling party, the three-term former lawmaker emerged as the APC’s candidate for the 2023 House of Representatives election, which he eventually lost.
Sources who spoke with Peoples Conscience on Friday claimed that while Hon. Soliu Adelodun’s nomination details had already been uploaded to the INEC portal, the status of Hon. Muraina Ajibola’s nomination remained unclear. Some of his core loyalists maintained that he had yet to make his final decision on the matter.
Political observers have offered differing interpretations of the development. While some believe the move is aimed at weakening the APC’s electoral strength in Ibarapa geopolitical zone following the duo’s failure to secure the party’s tickets, others argue that obtaining the ticket of the Wike-aligned faction of the PDP does not constitute a significant political breakthrough, citing the party’s current political realities in Oyo State and the numerous legal disputes confronting it.
