Hon. Olasunkanmi Quits PDP, Backs Makinde’s Democratic Ideals

The political landscape in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State witnessed another crack on Friday as Hon. Sunday Kayode Olasunkanmi, popularly known as O’Sunkanmi, officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Olasunkanmi, who currently represents the good people of Ward 01, Malete-Idere, said his decision came after deep reflection and wide consultations with political associates and supporters.

The councillor described the decision as painful but necessary, noting that politics should always be guided by loyalty, conscience and commitment to the people. According to him, there comes a time when every politician must make difficult choices in the interest of democracy, justice and the future of his people.

Hon. Olasunkanmi expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for what he described as his courageous stand against the emergence of a one-party system in Nigeria. He noted that Governor Makinde has remained one of the strongest defenders of democratic values, inclusiveness and political balance in the country.

He stated that the governor’s leadership style, resilience and dedication to the welfare of the people have continued to inspire many young politicians across Oyo State. According to him, Governor Makinde’s belief in fairness and healthy political competition remains worthy of commendation at a critical time in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The Ward 01 councillor also paid glowing tribute to his political leader, Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, popularly known as Ibarapakan, describing him as a loyal ally of Governor Seyi Makinde and a committed servant of the people. He praised the federal lawmaker for standing firmly with the governor through difficult political moments while continuing to attract development and opportunities to Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency.

The resignation has already generated reactions across Ibarapa Central, with many supporters and political observers describing the development as emotional and significant. Residents and loyalists who spoke on the matter said Hon. Olasunkanmi has remained one of the most accessible grassroots politicians in the area, making his departure from the PDP a major political development.

Despite resigning from the PDP, Hon. Olasunkanmi assured his supporters that his commitment to the progress of Ward 01, Idere, Ibarapa Central and Oyo State remains unchanged. He maintained that his political journey is far from over and promised to continue standing for the interests of the people and the preservation of democracy in Nigeria.
