The ancient town of Ayete in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State is set to witness a landmark gathering tomorrow, Saturday, August 29, 2026, as the Muslim community confers the prestigious title of Aare Musulumi of Ayete-land on the Executive Chairman of the council, Alhaji Lateef Adebаre Lawal, popularly known as Akorede.
The ceremony, which is expected to attract prominent political leaders, government functionaries, traditional figures, Islamic scholars and other dignitaries from Oyo State and beyond, is being organised to recognise Akorede’s contributions to the growth, unity and development of the Muslim community in Ayete. The conferment is also expected to add a new chapter to the history of the town’s Islamic leadership.
The event will take place at the Baptist High School Playing Ground, Ayete, with the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Sola Adeleke (Solar), serving as host. The Chief Imam of Ayete-land, Fadilatul Sheikh (Alhaji) Abdullahi Daud Folorunso, is also expected to play a prominent role in the historic ceremony.
As part of the programme, renowned Islamic scholar Fadilatul Sheikh (Alhaji) Jamiu AmiOlohun is expected to deliver a lecture, while celebrated Islamic musician Alhaji AbdulAzeez, (Saoty Arewa), will provide a special musical performance.
Beyond the religious significance of the ceremony, Akorede’s political network is expected to make the gathering colorful. Political functionaries and stakeholders from across Oyo State, as well as personalities from outside the state, are poised to attend the ceremony to celebrate with the council chairman.
Akorede, who is also the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North State Constituency, is set to make history as the first person to formally assume the revered title of Aare Musulumi of Ayete-land. The development has generated considerable interest among residents and well-wishers, with many viewing the occasion as both a recognition of service and an important moment in the evolution of Islamic leadership in the community.
