The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Sarafa Olaoniye, has described the defection of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, to the ruling party as a major political development that will strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Olaoniye said he received the news of Arapaja’s decision to join the APC with ecstasy and joy on Sunday, describing the former deputy governor as a seasoned politician whose experience, influence and leadership would add immense value to the party in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the APC standard-bearer said the decision of the veteran politician to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC reflects the growing confidence of political leaders in the ruling party, which he described as the largest political party in Africa.
He said Arapaja’s entry into the APC would consolidate the party’s grassroots structures across Oyo State, foster greater unity among progressives and enhance its chances of recording a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.
Olaoniye also commended the former deputy governor for what he described as his enduring commitment to democratic values and institutions, noting that his wealth of experience in governance and party administration would enrich the APC.
“I received the news of Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja’s defection to the All Progressives Congress with great excitement because it is another significant milestone in our collective journey towards a greater Oyo State.
“Ambassador Arapaja is a respected political leader with an impressive track record in public service. His decision to identify with the APC will undoubtedly strengthen our party, broaden our support base and reinforce our preparations for the 2027 general elections.
“I appreciate his commitment to democratic institutions and his readiness to work with other progressive-minded leaders in advancing the development of Oyo State. His coming will inspire many more leaders and supporters across the state to join the APC as we continue to build a united, formidable and people-oriented political platform.”
Bibire as fondly called by his political followers urged party members across the state to warmly receive Arapaja and his supporters, stressing that the APC remained committed to inclusiveness, internal democracy and good governance.
He expressed confidence that the growing wave of defections into the APC would position the party for electoral success in Oyo State and contribute to its determination to deliver responsive leadership and sustainable development for the peoples.
