President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the next Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), replacing Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure comes to an end on July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina, who will clock 40 in July, is expected to consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded during Oloyede’s administration while introducing fresh innovations to improve the country’s admission system.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the incoming registrar’s ability to reposition the examination body through his background in technology, institutional development and digital transformation.
The statement noted that Aina’s wealth of experience and technical expertise would help drive JAMB to a new phase of growth and efficiency.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina is recognised for his contributions to digital systems, examination management and public-sector reforms.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
His connection with JAMB reportedly began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, when he worked with the Board and gained firsthand experience in admissions administration and data management systems.
The statement added that Aina has spent over 15 years working across technology, governance and institutional reform, advising both federal and state governments on digital transition initiatives and system improvement strategies.
At 39, he became one of the youngest professors of Computer Engineering in Nigeria and is now set to emerge as the youngest Registrar ever appointed by JAMB.
Beyond academia, he has consulted for major examination agencies, including NECO and NABTEB, particularly in the areas of ICT integration, examination security and process automation.
Aina also belongs to several notable professional engineering associations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
