Six Oyo Reps Defect from PDP to APM

Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State on Tuesday formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples Movement.

The defections were announced during plenary at the House of Representatives following the Sallah break. Presiding over the session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, PhD read letters from lawmakers notifying the House of their decision to change political parties.

The lawmakers from the Oyo State caucus who moved to the APM are Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Akinola Fola Oyekunle and Abass Adigun.

In their separate letters, the lawmakers attributed their exit from the PDP to the prolonged internal crisis and leadership disputes within the party, stating that the situation necessitated their search for a new political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The latest development represents a significant political shift in Oyo State, with supporters of Seyi Makinde consolidating within the APM. The defections reduce the PDP’s strength within the Oyo caucus in the House of Representatives while boosting the representation of the APM.

Tuesday’s plenary also witnessed other changes in party affiliations across the House, as the PDP both lost and gained members amid the ongoing realignment of political forces ahead of the next electoral cycle.
