MEET OLANSHILE OGUNRINU


Olanshile Ogunrinu is a fresh graduate of Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan, with a strong passion for journalism. His journey in journalism began right after secondary school, writing for The News Digest Nigeria on education and human rights. Over time, he has contributed to notable platforms such as the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Nigerian Tribune, and Ripples Nigeria, covering critical topics on health, education, human rights, and politics.

uring his undergraduate days at the University of Ibadan, Olanshile was an active member of the Union of Campus Journalists, UI (UCJ UI), where he served in multiple leadership roles including General Editor, Politics Editor, and Editor-in-Chief of the AFAS Press Organization, the University of Ibadan Faculty of Arts official press organization. He also led the revival of the Sultan Bello Hall Press as the Editor-in-Chief.

He has trained over 50 campus journalists across Nigeria and championed advocacy efforts for press freedom, youth engagement, and accountability both on and off campus.

Olanshile has been selected for prestigious fellowships such as the Campus Solutions Ambassadors in West Africa (2022), British Council Future News Worldwide Online Conference (2022), Journalists and Writers Foundation Conference (2022) as the only Nigerian delegate, Campus Reporters Data Journalism Fellowship (2023), Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals Fellowship (2023), and the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development UDEME Fellowship (2024).

Olanshile’s work has also been recognized through multiple award nominations and wins. He was a nominee for the Nigeria Campus Journalism Awards for Best Upcoming Writer (2022),  winner of the UCJ UI Most Promising Campus Journalist Award (2023), 2-time nominee for UCJ UI Best Editor-in-Chief , and winner of the Alfred Opubor Next Gen Campus Journalism Award for Best Data Reporting (2024).

On March 1, 2025, he was sworn in as the 37th President of UCJ UI, a role he held until December 19, 2025 marking the close of his undergraduate journey and the beginning of his post-graduation career in media and advocacy.
